Denali National Park, the Kenai Peninsula
and Grizzly Bears at Brooks Falls!

Fly to Anchorage, Alaska. Explore Denali National Park and the birds of the Kenai Peninsula. Then spend an unforgettable day at Brooks Falls, travelling in to Brooks Camp in Katmai National Park by float plane. A short walk to Brooks Falls enables us to experience one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth - Grizzly Bears catching Pacific Salmon as they make their way upstream via the waterfall to spawn!

Outline Programme

Day 1  Fly to Anchorage from London Heathrow. Stay one night in the Anchorage area.
Day 2  Drive the Parks Highway to Denali National Park, about 230 miles in all. Visit Eagle River Wildlife Centre en route. Check in at Denali Cabins - comfortable individual log cabins to give us a taste of the Alaskan way of life.
Day 3  Today we shall explore Denali National Park in the seemingly never-ending daylight, thus giving us plenty of time for searching out the wildlife this wonderful area has to offer. We shall be looking for Moose, Elk, White-tailed Deer, Black Bear, and possibly Grizzly Bear and Timber Wolf. This is a high area, towards the treeline, so songbirds are scarce, but we will get game birds and raptors.
Day 4  Head back to the Anchorage area for the night, making several stops at some of the bird-rich wetlands and lakes en route.
Day 5  Visit Potter Marsh on the road to Homer. Explore Homer Spit harbour looking for Sea Otters, pelagic birds and the possibility of whales.
Day 6  Pelagic trip from Homer looking for Aleutian Terns, Marbled and Kittlitz's Murrelet, Tufted and Horned Puffin amongst many others.
Day 7  Further exploration of Homer and Kenai peninsula with the possibility of a second boat trip. Drive to Anchorage for the night.
Day 8  Flight to King Salmon and onward seaplane flight to Brooks Camp for what will prove to be an unforgettable day. On arrival we are given an introductory talk about the bears and their behaviour. Then we are free to walk along the shore and paths to the Falls where the Grizzly Bears are so busy catching salmon that they scarcely notice our presence.
Day 9  Morning at leisure in Anchorage before flight home.
Day 10  Arrive London Heathrow.
